Hi Lorrell,
In Orthodox icons of Christ it is not uncommon to see the Greek letters: ICXC which just stands for “Jesus Christ.” NIKA at the bottom is Greek for “Conquers.” Because the icon is an image of Christ conquering death at his moment of entering Hades and breaking down the doors (they are beneath His feet) and pulling up those who were asleep there- especially our first parents- Adam and Eve. This icon is called the Resurrection icon but also refers to the “harrowing of hell” — that moment when Christ enters the land of the dead which we remember on the Holy Saturday after Christs death on Friday.
prayers for you on your journey!
